Taking OpenStack to the next level
Building a scalable UX framework and UI component library for Metacloud's premium OpenStack offering, from launch through Cisco acquisition.
The Client
Metacloud was a premium OpenStack offering — an on-premise private cloud solution delivered with a SaaS-like service model. In a market where enterprise cloud infrastructure was often difficult to use and visually undifferentiated, Metacloud needed a product experience that matched the quality and care of its underlying service.
The Engagement
Interactivism worked with Metacloud continuously from 2013 across all customer-facing aspects of the product experience: the company website, the Horizon dashboard, a customer onboarding and self-serve support portal, and internal environments for Metacloud’s SysOps teams.
What We Built
The engagement followed a structured process: requirements review and competitive research, information architecture and wireframing, branding, UI design, and UI component library development. The result was a highly scalable UX framework combined with a UI component library that made OpenStack look and feel like a modern, premium product — not a generic open-source interface.

Outcome
Metacloud was acquired by Cisco in September 2014, validating both the product strategy and the quality of the user experience as a competitive differentiator in the enterprise cloud market.
